Q: What happens if someone touches the system?

A: They will receive a very unpleasant short, sharp shock.

Q: Is it legal?

A: Yes, in Europe it is covered by the Electric Fence Standard and the USA it is governed by local ordinances for electric fencing. Check local zoning laws for guidance.

Q: What about maintenance?

A: IP electric fencing requires a minimum of maintenance. An annual check of fence condition and clearing of weed growth is suggested.

Q: How does the system handle false alarms due to weather, rain, fog, snow, etc.?

A: If the fence is clear of vegetation, the Induced Pulse system has a very low false alarm rate under such conditions.

Q: What happens if the power fails?

A: All the high end IP systems have battery backup built in.

Q: What are the costs to operate the system?

A: Operational costs are very low. Power consumption on the most complex IP system is around 30 Watts. Annual maintenance would raise the running costs.

Q: Is the system zoned for alarm management and response?

A: Yes. Depending on customer requirements. Most IP systems are at least four zones. The majority of large sites are at least six zones.

Q: What is the maximum zone length?

A: Zone lengths are governed by the length of live wire in the system. We suggest no more than 5,000 ft (1,500m) of live wire. So a 30 wire IP fence would be limited to 330 ft. (100m). However, a 24 wire system could span 410 ft. (125m.).

Q: Does the system lower my insurance costs?

A: In the UK centain insurance companies have given users of the IP system a discount.

Q: Is the Induced Pulse perimeter intrusion detection system networkable?

A: Yes, using the IP6000 control system.

Q: Is it possible to have remote access to the controls?

A: Yes, depending on the choice of headend and limitations of your LAN.

Q: Can I switch off or isolate individual zones without disabling the entire system?

A: Yes, using the IP6000 control system.
